Domestic Violence includes allegations of violence between two intimate partners. This can include couples who are dating, living together, married or sometimes out on a first date.
Domestic Violence is handled differently by both the Courts and the Prosecutors. When you are charged with an allegation of Domestic Violence you will generally be bound by a no-contact order with your accuser; requiring that you not speak with them until your criminal charges are resolved. Oftentimes this requires that you move out of your primary residence; even before you are convicted or proven guilty. A skilled and experienced defence lawyer will understand the need for urgency and will be well-positioned to assist you in dealing with this on a practical level.
Importantly, once you are charged with an allegation of Domestic Violence the 'victim' cannot withdraw the charges. Your best course of action is to retain counsel to defend you and to address this with the Prosecutor.
Our lawyers have experience handling these matters and can assist you in the most trying of times.
